Yesterday Microsoft released a patch MS13-04[KB 2756920] which is causing extensive issues with Web[.Net] related applications.
Windows 2008 R2 RTM customer are mainly affected by this patch. The following exception is thrown after installing KB2756920 on Win7/Win2k8 R2 RTM when any WCF service is hosted on IIS using HTTPS in which the machine has a QFE that only contains System.ServiceModel.dll (S.SM.dll) and not System.ServiceModel.WasHosting.dll (S.SM.WasHosting.dll).
Server Error in ‘/SecurtyTokenServiceApplication’ Application
Method not found:
This issue is due to LDR/GDR DLL versions mis-match issue[System.ServiceModel.dll and System.ServiceModel.WasHosting.dll] similar to MS11-100 issue.
- SharePoint 2010
- Exchange 2010
- Any .Net Web Application using WCF
What to do:
The workaround is fairly simple. Just need to install one of the latest QFEs that contain both System.ServiceModel.dll and System.ServiceModel.WasHosting.dll.
We recommend to install the following public hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2637518
- Download info For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2
- Upgrade the machines from Win7/Win2008R2 RTM to SP1.
If you don’t have a choice then uninstalling the patch MS13-004 would resolve this problem[not recommended approach]
